The CAEM Student Experience

“I gained technical skills, like programming and seismic design, and other skills, like how to work effectively with a research team. This training gave me a tremendous advantage applying to graduate schools.”
Patrick Hughes, BS 2015
“It was cool to get to work with people outside your major. Our overall goal was to beautify and educate the campus.”
Nicholas Tritz, undergraduate working on UA rooftop garden
“We were …listening to women speakers give suggestions about how to handle difficult situations…and learning firsthand industry trade skills such as layout, safety, welding, pipe fitting and electrical systems.”
Amanda Wittenborn, 2018 undergraduate
“The seminar left me with a mentality that with hard work and enthusiasm, I could be successful in my field. The opportunities are unlimited!”
Lissette Flores, BS 2017
“I was constantly referring to my notes and knowledge from construction classes. I was reminded of the mock bid and site visits that we took and felt prepared.”
Abigail Davidson, BS 2016, Turner Construction Co.

Well-Balanced Academic Programs

At UA CAEM, students get personalized attention in a small department along with the resources and reputation of a large research university. The department’s strong industry ties lend themselves to globally beneficial research and well-prepared graduates, with job placement at more than 90% at graduation.

UA Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics offers undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as graduate certificates, with numerous options – including an accelerated master’s program, online courses and international micro-campuses. Among specialty offerings are a construction engineering management emphasis and one of the few architectural engineering degree programs in the western United States.

Students take on leadership roles in research, develop real-world design projects, participate in professional seminars and club activities, and gain industry experience through internships.
