This course introduces the field of Human-Building Interaction (HBI), which seeks to improve the interactions between individuals and the built environment through interdisciplinary approaches. Students will explore topics such as indoor environmental quality (IEQ), user comfort, behavior, productivity/performance, health, and emerging technologies in building design and management. They will also learn about state-of-the-art advancements in HBI and develop a smart electronic system using Arduino and sensors to facilitate HBI, incorporating their own ideas. Lastly, the course emphasizes the strong connections between HBI approaches and sustainability, as well as energy efficiency. May be convened with ARCE 553.

Prerequisite(s): Adv Stdg: Engineering. ARC/ARCE 222, ARC/ARCE 223, and ARCE 340.
