Assistant professor of CAEM Alyssa Ryan appeared on Arizona Public Media's Arizona Science podcast to discuss her research regarding transportation crash data.

Ryan spoke with Tim Swindle, professor emeritus in planetary science at the University of Arizona, about how she's looking into why certain populations experience higher traffic mortality rates than others.

"With this new outlook called 'Vision Zero' that a lot of cities are adopting, which is looking at zero fatal crashes and serious injury crashes, we are focusing a lot more on those types of crashes," Ryan said during the episode.

"There are so many factors that go into why a crash occurs, especially a fatal crash. Pedestrian crashes are very serious in Arizona. People are walking in this state outside or people are cycling outside all year round — you don't see that in other states," Ryan added. "And those are very vulnerable road users."
