CEEM's Homecoming Weekend a Success
Our department was certainly busy over the weekend, hosting both the Centennial Awards Luncheon on Friday and the 10th Annual Homecoming BBQ on Saturday. The Luncheon was held at 12pm at Hotel Congress in the heart of downtown where the winners of the 2015 Centennial Awards were recognized. Mark Woodson, Brian Dolan, and Robert Turton were the recipients of the Distinguished Alumni award; Jorge Villalobos was this year's Outstanding Young Alumni; and Dr. Philip Newlin, who passed away in 1995, and Dr. Mo Ehsani were honored with the Centennial Professor award.
The 10th Annual Homecoming BBQ was held in the CEEM courtyard, as per tradition, and welcomed back many alumni. Lido's Bar-BQ Ranch catered the event and Rudy Jimenez and the AZ Banjo Blasters played guests through the afternoon. The SCE student officers raffled off items to fundraise for their PSWC conference, including two basketballs autographed by the 2015-2015 men's team. Many alumni brought their families and young children, who enjoyed "canoe fishing," face painting, and removable tattoos in the Kid's Corner. Finally, many CEEM t-shirts bearing our original logo were sold to alum who were eager to represent the department.
Both events were a great success, and we are very thankful to our donors, without whom none of the festivities would have been possible. Big thanks to QuakeWrap, Inc. and Brian Dolan for sponsoring tables at the Centennial Luncheon, and QuakeWrap, Spencer and Ena Tucker, Structural Grace, and Nathan and Karen Palmer for their sponsorship of our Homecoming BBQ. We would also like to thank everyone who was able to attend both events, making this year's Homecoming one to remember.
