UA Design-Build Team Selected as DBIA Western Pacific Region Finalist
For the third year in a row, a UA design-build team was among the nine western pacific regional finalists in the annual National Design-Build Student Competition, sponsored by the Design-Build Institute of America, or DBIA.
The team, Student Living Solutions, included students Blair Kessler, Jayme Flamm, Blake Donohue, Hector Garavito and Ethan Schuchmacher, who received a grant from DBIA to attend its national conference in New Orleans in November 2018.
This year, 31 teams from 25 universities entered the competition and demonstrated design-build best practices. The UA had five teams competing -- the largest number of any school -- each composed of three construction students and two design students.
The teams proposed delivery solutions to design and construct a campus living and learning residence hall on a liberal arts college campus in the Midwest.
The DBIA UA Chapter is part of the construction emphasis in CAEM.
