International students now have opportunities to obtain degrees in civil engineering and other disciplines thanks to a UA venture called “microcampuses.”

A microcampus is created when a partner university allows use of its physical campus and classrooms, and provides a designated space for the UA. This is much more cost-effective than building a new infrastructure abroad.

“We are going to gain financially,” said department head Kevin Lansey in an interview with insidehighered.com. “But we also have an opportunity to help a country that’s in need of highly trained civil engineers."

Civil engineering degrees are already available at UA’s existing microcampuses at UA Qingdao at Ocean University of China and UA Phnom Penh at the American University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Upon approval by the Higher Learning Commission, the UA will begin offering programs at 11 new partner universities in the fall and spring semesters of 2018.
