Undergrads Earn 3rd in Traffic Device Challenge

UA Department of Civil Engineering students Garrett Anderson, Vincent Morello and Lindsey Willman earned third place in the national Traffic Control Device Challenge for their project "The Pima County Split-Face Marker." 

The 2017 competition, sponsored by the American Traffic Safety Services Association and the Transportation Research Board, invited students across the country to develop traffic control device designs, ideas, enhancements and standards to support advanced vehicle technology, including connected and autonomous vehicles. 

The UA team's invention is the County Marker, a split-faced reflective pavement marker developed during internships with the Pima County Department of Transportation. 

The team presented their work at a TRB meeting in Washington, D.C., in January and gave a "Traffic Talk" at the ATSSA convention in Phoenix in February.
