CEEM Is Getting Set for Homecoming 2016

The UA department of civil engineering and engineering mechanics is getting ready, getting set and taking reservations for our 11th annual Homecoming celebration, which will take place on Oct. 28-29. 

The festivities begin on Friday, Oct. 28, with the College's annual Engineers' Breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Please register online if you are interested in attending. 

Then, at noon on Friday, alumna and clean-water advocate Marla Smith-Nelson will deliver the 2016 Centennial Lecture in Room 211 of the Education Building. Smith-Nilson, who received the department's Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2007, is founder and executive director of Water 1st International. The Centennial Lecture Series, an extension of CEEM's 2005 centennial celebration, brings a distinguished speaker to campus every two years. 

The department also plans to celebrate the memory of alumnus Ed Nowatzki on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Civil Engineering Building. Our vision is to rename Room 201 in his honor. With the endorsement of Ed’s family, and contributions from colleagues and friends, we hope to establish a $25,000 endowment in order to dedicate the room and support the Centennial Lecture Series, which he helped found. 

Finally, our celebration would not be complete without the department's annual Homecoming BBQ. Join us on Saturday, Oct. 29, in the Civil Engineering Courtyard (1209 E. 2nd St.) at 5 p.m. for delicious food and a chance to revisit your alma mater.
