CAEM Awarded GAANN Funding to Help Rebuild US Infrastructure

The U.S. infrastructure – including its bridges, dams, and rail and road systems – scores an overall D+, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers’ latest infrastructure report card.

With support from the U.S. Department of Education’s Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need program, the UA Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics will help train the next generation of engineers to rebuild the country’s crumbling backbone by offering GAANN doctoral fellowships in the area of resilient civil engineering infrastructure.

The diverse expertise of CAEM faculty will allow students to pursue research across the spectrum of civil engineering. Fellows will also receive comprehensive mentorship and teaching training through the UA Office of Instruction and Assessment, including the option to pursue a certificate in college teaching.

GAANN fellowships cover full tuition and a stipend up to $34,000, and are open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. The priority deadline for fall 2019 admission is Jan. 15, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through May 1.
