CAEM Alum Uses CEM Experience to Make Ideas Reality, Wins ASCE Honor
CAEM alumnus Jose Aguilar, class of 2014, was recently featured on the American Society of Civil Engineers news site after being named a 2019 New Face of Civil Engineering in recognition of his drive to make ideas a reality, including launching the PVC Bridge Competition.
With the help of Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement, or MESA, and the ASCE Younger Member Group, Aguilar created an annual competition where Arizona middle and high school students compete to be the quickest to design and build model bridges. Each construction must be made of PVC piping, be able to hold 100 pounds, and meet certain height, width and length specifications.
Aguilar is a transportation engineer for Psomas in Tucson. He also serves as the practitioner adviser for the ASCE-UA student chapter.
