Deanna López recently won the American Society of Civil Engineers' award for Southern Arizona Young Engineer of the Year. López, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 2013, currently works as senior transportation civil engineer at WSP USA. She received a scholarship from the organization in 2012.

"My thank you goes to all of those who volunteered before me, because you guided me, to those who volunteer with me, because this is truly a team effort, and to those who volunteer after me, you are the one that keeps us going," López wrote in a LinkedIn post. "Thank you to WSP USA fam, especially my Tucson folks, for always giving me your support, challenging projects and flexibility. I’m very grateful."

"She has outstanding contributions in the field of engineering, possesses outstanding character, professional integrity and technical knowledge," said Dean Papajohn, associate professor of practice in CAEM. "She has a professional attitude and has done outstanding community service in Southern Arizona."
